| Job Description: | Mosquito and Vector Control Specialist I or II Filing Deadline: Open Until Filled Salary: $4,446.00 – $6,255.16 monthly MVCS I $4,671.33 – $6,571.50 monthly MVCS II ABOUT THE DISTRICT The Butte County Mosquito and Vector Control District (BCMVCD) is an independent special district that serves all of Butte County, except the small area served by the Durham Mosquito Abatement District. Additionally, BCMVCD serves Hamilton City and other small areas of Glenn County. In addition to mosquito and mosquito-borne disease surveillance and control, the District also conducts regular surveillance for ticks, yellow jackets, and other nuisance pests and vectors of disease. The mission of BCMVCD is primarily to suppress mosquito-transmitted disease and to also reduce the annoyance levels of mosquitoes and diseases associated with ticks, fleas and other vectors through environmentally compatible control practices and public education. GENERAL DESCRIPTION During the warmer months of the year, under the general direction of the District Manager and Assistant Manager and direct supervision of the Regional Supervisor, the Mosquito and Vector Control Specialist (MVCS) performs vector surveillance, performs vector control operations, and provides public education within the District’s service area. The MVCS is assigned a geographic zone and/or specialized functions of a vector control agency, and performs work as required. During the cooler months of the year, the MVCS performs annual maintenance of spray equipment/machines, ATVs, vehicles, and facilities; performs personnel and equipment characterization and calibration; performs and assists with special projects; receives annual training and attends continuing education courses. The MVCS must be knowledgeable and able to communicate effectively with members of the public, present himself/herself professionally, and work cooperatively with coworkers, members of the public, and employees of other agencies. This position requires working outside in a variety of weather conditions ranging from below freezing to above 100° with exposure to sun, heat, wind, and rain. The MVCS regularly works with and uses pesticides. The MVCS will be working in and around water. |
