Applications for the 2026 William C. Reeves New Investigator Award will be accepted until November 3, 2025. The William C. Reeves New Investigator Award, memorializing Dr. William C. Reeves, who was a renowned University of California entomologist, is sponsored by the Mosquito and Vector Control Association of California (MVCAC). The award is presented to the best scientific paper submitted and presented at the annual MVCAC conference. The Reeves New Investigator Award application differs from the MVCAC Call for Papers, if you have an additional speaking topic for the Call for Papers, please follow that application and guidelines.
Eligibility
The applicant must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program or have completed such a degree within the previous five calendar years (i.e., an applicant for the current Reeves Award must have received his/her degree no earlier than January 1, 2020). The applicant must submit a complete application packet, and must give a 15-minute presentation, followed by a 5-minute question and answer period, during the Reeves New Investigator Award Symposium at the MVCAC Annual Conference. Judgment Criteria The Reeves New Investigator Award Committee will evaluate each applicant on the quality of the study upon which the paper is based, the written manuscript, and the 15-minute presentation at the annual conference. Awards will be presented at the banquet. All Reeves candidates will receive a complimentary banquet ticket.
Application Procedure
Application packets must be submitted to mvcac@mvcac.org by November 3, 2025 and must include:
- Completed MVCAC Reeves New Investigator Award form
- Proof of enrollment, graduation, or entry into field
- Enrollment: letter from advisor or department chair
- Graduation: copy of diploma or other acceptable documentation (degree must be within the last 5 years)
- New to the field (≤5 years): letter of support from district manager or direct supervisor
- Manuscript for evaluation should address the biology or control of vectors or vector-borne To participate manuscripts must be submitted to mvcac@mvcac.org by December 20, 2025
- Applicant must be senior author, or have contributed substantially enough to warrant senior authorship
- Acceptable manuscript types:
- Full manuscript for publication in the MVCAC Proceedings (no extended abstract required)
- Draft manuscript intended for submission elsewhere (extended abstract required)
- Previously published or accepted first-author manuscript (extended abstract required)
- Extended abstract summarizing the manuscript (included in the MVCAC Proceedings)
- If summarizing an accepted/published paper, the abstract must include a reference to the manuscript

Applicants must submit their packets electronically to mvcac@mvcac.org. Packets must include the Application Form, Proof of Enrollment/Graduation, and either a Manuscript or Summary for Publication with accepted/published manuscript in PDF file format, with an editable copy of their manuscript or summary that meets the requirements of the MVCAC Proceedings, which is also available for download at http://www.mvcac.org/resources/publications/. As a Reeves New Investigator Award candidate, you still must register for the MVCAC conference, however, may do so at the student rate regardless of employment status.
