Under general supervision of the District Entomologist, Source Reduction Specialist and/or Mosquito Control Supervisor, candidate will facilitate and support in the surveillance, inspection, and control of mosquitoes and other vectors; perform supportive work such as lab and facilities maintenance, record keeping, and other related work. WORKING CONDITIONS Successful candidates will be required to perform in a variety of environments, such as carrying loads more than 50 pounds over rough terrain; frequently walking; and performing outdoor mosquito control operations in above average heat temperatures. Tasks may include the application of larvicide and adulticide, as well as interaction with the public at their residential locations while conducting premise inspections. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Education equivalent to completion of the 12th grade. Education and Experience: A combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the typical duties of this position at the level specified. AND License: Possession and maintenance of a valid California Department of Motor Vehicles Driver’s License. Incumbent must be insurable and maintain insurability by the District’s insurance provider during entire tenure of employment. Ability to: Plan and perform the required tasks; operate and maintain field and laboratory equipment; maintain detailed and accurate records; perform basic mathematical calculations, follow instructions and communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships. Physical and Mental Requirements: Mobility – Pushing/pulling, climbing, crawling, and frequently standing for long periods, walking, driving and bending/squatting; Lifting – Frequently lifting 25 pounds or greater without assistance; occasionally lifting 50 pounds or greater without assistance; Vision – Individual must be sighted with ability to demonstrate measurable depth perception; frequent reading and close-up work; normal hand and eye coordination; Dexterity – Normal dexterity with frequent holding, reaching, grasping and writing; Hearing/Talking – Frequent hearing and talking on the telephone/radio and in person; Emotional/Psychological – Frequent concentration, public contact and decision making. EXAMINATION AND SELECTION PROCESS Selection of applicants for interviews will be based on evaluation of training, education and experience related to the class specification for this position. Those candidates selected for interviews will receive an oral interview to assess training, experience and ability to perform the duties of the position.
