This is a seasonal, temporary position. Duties vary depending on department and crew assignment, which may include Control Operations, Fisheries, or Shop. Control Operations assignments may include North Sacramento County, South Sacramento County, Catch Basins, Urban Operations, North Yolo County, or South Yolo County. Sacramento County, Catch Basin, and Urban Operations crews report to the Bond Road office in Elk Grove. Yolo County crews report to the Fortna Avenue office in Woodland. $22.00 – $24.00 Hourly. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The duties listed below are representative of work performed and may vary by assignment. This list is not intended to be all-inclusive. Surveys assigned areas for mosquito and vector breeding sources including catch basins, swimming pools, septic systems, dairy facilities, agricultural fields, and pastures. Performs inspections of residential, commercial, agricultural, and other properties for potential or known vector breeding sources. Assists in identifying mosquito abundance, species, and larval development stages. Applies biological or chemical control materials under the direction of a Supervisor or Field Technician in accordance with training, product labels, and applicable laws and regulations. Wears required personal protective equipment and follows District safety protocols. Assists Field Technicians in responding to service requests, including yellow jacket and Africanized honey bee calls. Communicates with property owners and members of the public regarding vector control services being performed. Refers complex public relations or access issues to a Supervisor. Collects and enters field data using mobile devices, tablets, and computer systems. Reads and interprets operational maps and reports discrepancies to Supervisor. Operates District vehicles and equipment in compliance with District safety policies and applicable laws. Travels within assigned zones by foot, bicycle, truck, ATV, trailer, or other equipment as required. Performs basic facility, grounds, and equipment maintenance and general labor tasks. Assists with maintenance, repair, and deployment of surveillance equipment. May assist in Fisheries operations including seining, planting, and maintaining Gambusia affinis (mosquitofish) or other biological control agents. Performs routine cleaning, testing, and maintenance of hatchery equipment and grounds. May be required to work overtime, weekends, or holidays. May be exposed to mosquitoes and vector-borne diseases in field environments. Performs related duties as assigned. Work Schedule and Term This is a seasonal, temporary position anticipated to begin in April and continue through approximately September 30, 2026. The term and scheduled hours may be adjusted based on program needs. Employees must be available to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Overtime, weekend, or holiday work may be required depending on operational needs. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience Equivalent to graduation from high school. Experience demonstrating possession of the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of the position is desirable. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered at the sole discretion of the District. Licenses and Certifications Possession of a valid California driver’s license and the ability to be insured under the District’s insurance program. A valid license and insurability must be maintained throughout employment. Physical and Working Conditions Work is performed primarily outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions, including heat, cold, uneven terrain, and exposure to water, vegetation, and wildlife. The position may involve walking long distances, lifting equipment and materials, and operating vehicles and powered equipment. Employees may be exposed to mosquitoes and infectious diseases associated with mosquitoes and other vectors. |
