Vector Control Technician, Mosquito & Vector Management District of Santa Barbara County

Job Description: After successfully completing a six-month probationary period, fulfilling training requirements and satisfactory work performance, the employee will be promoted to permanent status as Vector Control Technician I or II (depending on qualifications and experience). Under direction, work for this class includes the inspection and surveillance of disease and nuisance vector sources and applying control measures according to Federal and State Laws, Regulations, and District Policies. Work is performed in accordance with established methods and techniques, but the employee will exercise considerable independent judgment in vector inspection, surveillance and control assignments. The supervisor and lead staff provide guidance and direction through instruction and reviews of work performance. The appointee for the class will work in varying outdoor environments in existing weather conditions. The trainee will be exposed to various pesticides, organic materials common in vector-producing environments and disease/nuisance vectors including venomous and stinging insects.
