District Biologist, Solano County MAD

Description: The Biologist comprises an active component of the District’s support staff that collaborates to assist the District Manager in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the District’s mosquito control program. The Biologist works under the direction of the District’s Manager. Responsibilities include setting traps for mosquitoes, identifying mosquitoes, entering results in a database and producing reports. Laboratory duties also include testing dead birds for West Nile virus by the Rapid Analyte Measurement Platform  (RAMP) and monitoring insecticide resistance levels in local mosquitoes. The Biologist also works with the Operations staff in the field to test new control materials and methods in the field. Knowledge of general principles and techniques of mosquito and related vector control, including the proper use of pesticides and safety   precautions; familiarity with life cycles of mosquitoes and other insects.  Ability to use computers and software for text editing, graphing and mapping. Ability and willingness to learn new software programs.  Knowledge of mosquito biology and experience in the use binomial keys to identify insects.
